Women`s Legal Association Qld
Since 1978, WLAQ has been dedicated to promoting the interests of women in the Queensland legal profession through advocacy, education, mentoring and networking. As an association, we offer practitioners the opportunity to develop skills and create networks that can help them in their future career in law. We encourage the growth of women`s entrepreneurship in a number of professional associations and recognise that leadership development is supported through mentorship, whether through a formal programme such as that offered by WLAQ, or through ad hoc relationships developed through networking opportunities. A number of WLAQ awards are critical to the recognition and advancement of women in the legal profession. WLAQ recognizes the need to promote and encourage gender diversity at the highest and senior levels of the profession. Therefore, we will present educational programs that help women lawyers in their early and mid-career careers develop skills that enable them to make strategic and planned decisions about work and family life. In this way, we hope to encourage and encourage decision-making processes that, over time, will result in a larger pool of qualified and deserving candidates from which to fill senior management and senior management positions. Our past presidents and current members are diverse. Members include women from across the legal profession, including members of the judiciary, the Queensland Bar, private practice, community law centres, government, interns, academics and students.
We invite you to join us and be part of the journey. A raffle will be held during the event and all proceeds will help the Women`s Legal Service Queensland provide free legal and social assistance to women and their children who are victims of domestic violence. WLAQ`s Ladder program supports and promotes women in the early stages of their legal careers through its Ladder mentorship program. The program pairs law students and lawyers (must be less than 5 EAPs) with more experienced women in the profession who can encourage, support and empower young women to take advantage of opportunities in law. The Leaders Program helps build professional contacts and helps women take responsibility for their learning and career guidance. Enjoy fantastic food and good company as we celebrate outstanding practitioners who have made a significant contribution to Queensland`s advocacy and raise funds for the Women`s Legal Service and the Beryl Donkin Scholarship Fund.
